Cancer Awareness & Fundraising Event at Our Café: Support Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity for Young People Facing Cancer

Welsh cancer charity

On 8th December at 10:30am, our community at The Business Centre is coming together for a special event for cancer awareness and fundraising, one that is profoundly meaningful for some of our longest-standing residents, Dynamo Cover

Cancer Fundraising Event for Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity

The event is in support of Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity. An exceptional Welsh charity that provides financial relief and emotional support to young people in Wales, aged 15–35, who are navigating the devastating impact of a cancer diagnosis.

Free Buffet Provided by La Cantina, our New In-House Café

This charity fundraising event, hosted inside our brand-new café La Cantina, is completely free to attend. Not only will La Cantina be officially introduced to our community on this day, but the café is also generously providing a free buffet for everyone who comes along. Eat, connect, and most importantly, support a cause that’s helping young lives across Wales.

Why This Cancer Awareness & Fundraising Event Matters

For years, Lucy Mason – Head of Consumer Duty at Dynamo Cover and Alex Mills – CEO and Founder of the company, have been consistently supporting the Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity, through cancer awareness and fundraising initiatives.

Lucy shared the personal motivation behind her involvement:

For the past 3 years, I’ve had the pleasure of supporting this wonderful charity, as well as its CEO and founder Eirlys, not just professionally but personally too.

Along with my brother-in-law, Alex, we’ve been able to support the charity through our business by offering advice, donating where we can, and helping raise awareness of the incredible people who provide care and grants to so many young individuals facing the terrible illness that is cancer.”

Helping Young Cancer Patients During their Most Difficult Time

But this support is driven by a deeper realisation, one many people are completely unaware of.

“Before I met Eirlys and the team, I was quite unaware as to how little financial support young people who are diagnosed with cancer get. From the ages of 15–35, young people really struggle with not only the devastating diagnosis but also financial worries, and this is where Sir Gareth’s Cancer Charity comes in.

“They provide grants and advice for the young people who need it in their most difficult time,” explains Lucy.

For her, support for this vital Welsh cancer charity is deeply personal.

“I’ve been both amazed and saddened by how many people not only receive this awful diagnosis, but also rely on these grants. Over the past year, this has hit home even more. A wonderful and beautiful woman I had the privilege of knowing became ill with cancer and tragically lost her battle earlier this year.”

Over £160,000 Directly Donated to 500 Young People in Wales

Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity CEO

Here’s how Eirlys Edwards, Founder and CEO Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity, describes their mission:

“We give grants to pay for petrol to get to hospital, wigs after chemotherapy, rising household and food bills, bras after mastectomies and childcare for young parents who have been diagnosed with cancer.”

It’s practical help, given at the moment people need it most.

“The charity has given over £160,000 directly to over 500 young people in Wales.”

Their ambassadors include well-loved names such as Ruth Jones (Gavin and Stacey), Jac Morgan (Welsh Rugby, Lauren Price  (WBA Welterweight World Champion), and Elfyn Evans  (Toyota World Rally), all proudly helping promote cancer awareness in young people and assist with cancer fundraising initiatives.

Lucy and Alex have supported this incredible charity for years and their commitment is the reason this event is happening. We’d love it if our wider community could stand with them in making a real difference for those fighting the hardest battle of their lives.

Cancer turns a young person’s world upside down.

A small grant can mean a warm home, a tank of petrol to get to treatment, a wig that restores confidence, or childcare that lets a parent attend chemotherapy.

Your attendance and your voice can help extend the reach of this charity even further.
