When people walk through the doors of The Business Centre, they’re often greeted with a warm smile and a friendly voice — that’s Karen Mote, one of our amazing team members behind our receptionist services. Karen joined our receptionist team in February 2020, just three weeks before the world shifted into the first Covid-19 lockdown.

Starting a new role in the middle of a global pandemic would be daunting for anyone — but Karen handled it with calm, kindness, and incredible professionalism.

From the start, she’s been the reassuring voice on the phone and the friendly face at reception, helping our community of small businesses feel supported and cared for through professional office services, phone call answering services, mail forwarding, and so much more.

Before joining us, Karen had spent years working at Waitrose. When the local store closed and she was made redundant, it could have been a setback — but instead, it opened the door to something new. Looking for a fresh challenge, Karen heard about the vacancy here from a friend. She applied, and the rest is history.

Now an essential part of our front desk reception team alongside Lynne and Sarah, Karen brings warmth, efficiency, and heart to everything she does.

Karen spends a large portion of her day on the phone — always answering with patience and professionalism, no matter how busy it gets.

Outside of work, Karen keeps things creative and cosy — she’s taken up knitting children’s toys (with impressive results!) and enjoys relaxing with a vodka or two when she’s off duty.

When asked what she enjoys most about working at The Business Centre, she doesn’t hesitate: “Everyone is so friendly. I felt welcome from the start, and no two days are ever the same.” That sense of community is something we work hard to foster, and Karen is a big part of what makes our receptionist services so personal and people-focused.

If she weren’t here with us, Karen jokes that her dream job would be David Essex’s Personal Assistant — a role we’re sure she’d excel at, given her natural charm.
