While sipping on a cuppa at Mel’s Cafe, we met up with Rebecca Turner, the company’s administrator and financial manager. She gave us the low-down on everything Capital Garage Equipment and discussed why The Business Centre is the perfect base to run this flourishing business.
Tell us more about Capital Garage Equipment Limited?
We supply commercial garage equipment all over the UK and Ireland. Most of our customers operate in the heavy goods vehicle industry. We supply haulage companies, bus companies, and waste management companies to name a few. The list goes on and on.
What products do you sell?
The type of products we sell are brake testers (mobile and in ground), pre-fabricated inspection pits, headlight testers, smoke analysers, column lifts, compressors, and much more.

The name was selected by company director, Roger Cox.

Why have you chosen The Business Centre? What attracted you to this location and how does it help you do your job?
Roger moved to Barry in 2015 when he met his wife Christine. Initially, he worked from home, but as the business expanded, Roger realised he needed an office space so he could bring a new employee on board.
The Business Centre is perfect for Capital Garage Equipment as it is local and an excellent base for Roger to travel all over the country. It is also a great place for networking with other businesses.
Where are your customers based? Are they local? How do they hear about you? Do you do your own marketing?
Our customers come from all over the UK & Ireland. From Scotland to Cornwall. We get a great deal of business from word of mouth, but we also advertise on Google and have our own website. We are a specialist supplier and well-known within the industry.
What growth challenges face small businesses like Capital Garage Equipment? How do you find new clients?
Like many other small businesses, we have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and the cost of living crisis. The rapid fuel increase is the main issue right now, as the companies that usually use our services are struggling with rising costs. However, we have a full order book for next year!
How long have you worked for the company? What is your role and what does your typical day look like?
I have worked for the company for 4 months. I started in March 2022. Every day is completely different and mainly consists of producing quotes and invoices. I am responsible for ordering and chasing deliveries and, in general, making sure that each day runs as smoothly as possible.
How do you relax? What do you do outside of work, on the weekends?
My absolutely favourite way to relax is to go on holiday. Once one is over, I am already booking the next. If I am not on holiday, I love to spend time with the family having fun days out, and I am an absolute bookworm!
What do you love and love less about your job?
I love the fact that I am learning new aspects of the job every day. I have never worked in this type of industry before, so it’s all new to me. I also have a great bond with my boss, Roger, which is good as it’s just the two of us in the office.
What I love less is when Roger is out and about on appointments, the office can be quite lonely. I am a firm believer that two heads are better than one.
What does the future look like for the company?
Capital Garage Equipment is always looking at new lines of business. Our next goal is to import various items of stock from as far as China. However, we have to navigate the minefield of customs first. With that said, we are so grateful to our existing customers in the UK and Ireland. Thank you for choosing us!
